Findings6 of 7 marked

Illustrative example. Detection can miss unusual names and addresses, which is why you review every finding before you export. Kenrook Redact helps you redact; it doesn’t certify a document as anonymous.

01What it does

A second pair of eyes, not a black box.

Redact suggests what to remove and shows you why. You decide what goes, and you see the result before anything is written.

You review every finding
Detection gives you a starting point. Confirm, skip or add findings, and nothing changes until you export.
A private vault for your own terms
Keep the names, codenames and phrases you always want removed. The vault lives on your computer.
Optional name detection
Add a small English name detector to catch people’s names that pattern rules miss.
Text, Office files and PDFs
Plain text, Markdown, CSV, JSON, Word, HTML, RTF and PDF.
Originals stay untouched
Redact writes a new copy and leaves the source file exactly as it was.
Light enough for any laptop
No graphics card and no big download. It works offline on an ordinary processor.

02Formats and limits

What it handles, and what it doesn’t.

Every file goes through the same review: built-in rules, your private vault and the optional name detector. This is where the current development build stands.

File types Kenrook Redact handles
KindFile typesYou get
Text.txt .md .csv .tsv .json .log .eml .xml .yamlA redacted copy in the same format
Documents.docx .odt .html .htm .rtfA redacted plain-text copy
PDF.pdfA redacted PDF copy
Formatting in converted files
Word, HTML and RTF files come out as plain text, without layout, styles or images.
Pictures inside documents
Images inside converted documents aren’t read, so text in them isn’t found.
Unusual names and addresses
Rules can miss them. The optional name detector helps, and your review catches the rest.
Not a certificate
Redact helps you remove sensitive details. It doesn’t certify a document as anonymous or compliant.
